Guidelines
Attendance
Students are expected to attend class during regular class times. Daily attendance will be taken. Students are expected to be on line by 8:00 for block instruction by the teachers. A schedule of classes and class times will be sent according to the grade level of the student. It is recommended that this schedule be followed, since maximum benefit can be received using this structure. A student is considered present when assignments are submitted by schedule times. Afternoon assignments must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. In the case of Friday afternoon classes they must be submitted by 4:00 p.m. Homework assignments must be submitted at least by 8 A.M. the following school day, unless the student is notified regarding special deadlines for designated assignments.
In the case of specific individual student needs, parents, in consultation with the teacher, may make written requests for time extensions or special arrangements, providing notification of need from the student’s physician in the case of exceptions for medical necessity.
Absences
Parents are to e-mail or phone teachers if the student will not be working during school hours on a particular day. Excused absences: Sickness, medical appointments, field trips to music clinics, art clinics, etc. Be sure to prearrange all absences with teachers when possible, 15% of class/assignments missed (per semester) – student will have to withdraw from the class.
Weather Emergencies
All students will have an emergency lesson plan packet that will consist of 10 individual lessons tom complete during in-climate weather conditions. Assignments must be submitted to the teacher upon return to virtual school.
Computer Problems
If the student is having computer problems on any given day, the teachers need to be notified by phone. If a daily assignment has not been received from a teacher, be sure to phone or IM the teacher before class. In case of an e-mail address change, please notify all teachers.
Testing
Tests given in individual classes will be taken at specific times. Parents will be notified in advance and asked to supervise. Students submit an honor pledge.
Students are NOT required to take state standardized tests. College bound students in grades 11 and 12 are required to register and take the PSAT, SAT, and/or ACT. Arrangements are made with the parents and a proctor.
Grade Reports
A report from each teacher will be sent to the parents at each mid-quarter point. A progress report will be issued at the end of each quarter. Parents should acknowledge receipt of these reports by notifying each teacher by e-mail or phone.
Educational Field Trips
Students who reside locally are encouraged to attend educational field trips to appropriate sites with teacher/parents (as chaperones) and other classmates. Local students are encouraged to participate in the field trips planned by their teacher/administrator. Be sure to check the news bulletin for updates. Arrangements for assignments to be completed, which were assigned for that day, will be made individually. These might include such programs as church activities, science fairs, music clinics, outdoor schools, agricultural clinics, and health & nutrition clinics, etc.
Academic Integrity
Remnant Prep. trusts each student and parent to maintain high standards of honesty and ethical behavior. All assignments submitted in fulfillment of course requirements must be the student’s own work. If any words or ideas are used in assignments that do not represent the student’s original words or ideas, the student must cite all relevant sources. Words or ideas that require citations include, but are not limited to, all hardcopy and all electronic publications, whether copyrighted or not, and all verbal and visual communications clearly originated from an identifiable source.
Plagiarism
“Plagiarism is taking writings and ideas of another and making them your own without giving credit. This will not be tolerated at REMNANT PREP. If you plagiarize (copy) any information from a book or the Internet without citing the reference(s), you will receive an F for the assignment and have to redo the assignment for a top possible grade of C. All papers must be written in your own words. It is not enough to just rewrite someone else’s sentences. The best thing to do is to read your information, jot down key words, close the reference, and write about what you read. Cutting and Pasting without citing reference is a form of plagiarism. If you have been instructed by your teacher NOT to use outside helps including Internet sites and you do, this is also considered plagiarism.
Graduation (tentative)
A 12th grade completion ceremony will be held at the end of the school year in the Saved to Serve Fellowship Hall. All students who live close enough to drive to the church are encouraged to participate. For those students living at a great distance. Students must meet all requirements in order to receive a diploma/transcript.
Community Service / Colporteur Ministry (Teacher/parental involvement suggested)
LITERATURE EVANGELISM: A thorough training, as well as field experience. Includes study of Colporteur Ministry by E. G. White. Students learn both home and business canvassing—how to present books, relate to different personalities, meet difficult situations, etc. Remnant Preparatory School’s Colporteur Ministry program runs several times throughout the year and is instrumental in aiding the potential student to take part in the Medical Missionary Evangelism. While canvassing, students will distribute Adventist literature door to door, including Spirit of Prophecy books, cookbooks, children’s books, and health books. Students are trained by experienced canvassing leaders to canvass houses, apartments, business, parking lots, and neighborhoods. Through canvassing, students will gain tremendous faith-building experiences that will help them become better equipped for missionary service in the Lord’s vineyard. Students will also learn valuable skills in preaching, public speaking, leading out in worship, drawing people into spiritual conversations, and healthful cooking. This requirement is for 8th – 12th grades.
Assignment Procedures
Students will need their own e-mail accounts separate from parent accounts.
Each day the student will access the personal e-mail account and print off the day’s assignments from the teachers by the designated class time. Teachers may send assignments by the day or for the week.
Place the assignments received from each teacher in a 3-ring binder dedicated to assignments given by that teacher. These assignments should never leave the binder until it has been determined that all assignments for the quarter have been completed. Students can devise their own system for making notations on the assignment sheet to indicate completion and submission of each assignment. It is recommended that parents assist in this organization process.
All assignments are evaluated and returned to students via e-mail.
Each teacher will require specific procedures for each class. These will be sent to students individually at the onset of school.
Academic Requirements
Each student will meet requirements Remnant Preparatory School if all assignments are submitted in a satisfactory manner and a satisfactory grade is received. A grade of “I” (Incomplete) will be given for legitimate reasons such as an illness or other emergency; however, all incompletes must be removed within two weeks following the grading period.
Scholarship Funding
Private scholarship funding is not yet available to assist family members with the education of their children. We strongly encourage you to inquire regarding this possibility, and we will be available to respond to any individual inquiries regarding our school.
Teacher Responsibilities
Post assignments to students and parents, providing all information necessary for the completion of assignments.
Respond to all student and parent e-mails in a timely manner.
Assist students in understanding lessons.
Provide weekly and sometimes daily lists of any missing work.
Provide mid-quarter and quarterly grade reports.
Hosting classroom sessions daily. Explanations given and attendance taken for classes.
